The "Pre-Water Sports Tubing" Experience on Lake George

Today, tubing behind a boat has become one of the most popular water sports activities for families and friends during the wonderful summers here on Lake George and on most other lakes around the state and country. These towables only began to be developed during the mid and late 1980s.

However, as early as 1961, when Tom's Water Ski School was in it's 4th year of operation and I was a sopohmore at the State University of Oswego, I was able to design and construct a water toboggan from marine plywood, ash and fiberglass in a wood technology class. This toboggan became a very useful aid for introducing those young and old to water sports which, like tubing, was a lot of fun. We gave rides to thousands of people from 1962 though 1985 - the last year of operation for Tom's Ski School.

The boat would slowly pull the toboggan from the dock and proceed out into the lake. The boat speed was not high but regulated according to the wishes and abilities of the passengers aboard. One can see that the passenger receiving the most spray would be the one at the front of the toboggan.

During the Winter Carnival, we used the water toboggan to pull some of the original members of the Coney Island Polar bear Club across the open waters of West Brook outlet behind a snowmobile.

The youngsters in the 1980 photo receiving pointers on how to hold on to the water toboggan are, left to right: Debi Cohen, Wendy Martin, Laurie Cohen, Kathy Martin and Jill Martin. The three Martin girls continue to vacation here at Bayfront Cottages, now with their own children. Their parents were on their honeymoon of Depe Dene Motel in 1964 and the Bethlehem, PA couple and their family have vacationed here at Bayfront every summer season since 1965.

The tubing photo was take last summer on Friends Lake with three of our grandchildren on board: Jack Krug, Max and Bradley Roach.

Another Satisfied Customer...

Dear Correct Craft,

I rarely take the time to send correspondence of this nature but in this case i feel it is necessary. I am writing to compliment Adirondack Marine located on Lake George in New York. I have purchased four Nautiques in my lifetime and three of them have been from Adirondack Marine. I consider myself to be a "Nautique" person and have total confidence in your product.

On all three occasions when dealing with the Roach Family at Adirondack Marine I have been extremely impressed. Notably Tom Roach, Jeff Roach and Mike from Service. I have found Tom to be honest, sincere and very reliable to deal with. Jeff and Mike in Service are the best. Many times they have assisted me in diagnosing small problems that have arisen. Always with patience and extensive knowledge of the product. All at AM have been friendly and courteous. I consider myself to be somewhat of a pain in the neck at times but, all at AM are simply the best to deal with and are always patient with me.

Tom Roach and his family and employees are a true asset to your company. I will always recommend them and Nautique when the situation may arise.

A very satisfied customer,
